EIGHT UN RIVER. ONLOOKERS DRIVE OFF THE FISH. A, thrilling fight between a terrier and two* immense* pike was witnessed • by a crowd of about a hundred per- . sons on the . new riverbank- .adjoining the pubEic park at Elnfield, Middlesex. ■ _ . . ' Chasing] a rat, the. dog leapt into the water. The rat dived and Mr Enderby, of Bush Hill Park, the owner of the terrier, whistled his dog back. ... I- ... The dog .was swimming towards the bank when it gave., a terrified howl, and it was,seen that, although it, was thrashing tlio water with-its' front paws, it was, making littlo or no- progress. Thinking that the dog was entamr,led in tho . weeds its owner. reached out his walking-stick, which thodog grasped 1 between its,: teech.- As, Mr Enderby began to draw the dog out ,of the. water it wasseen. that, two immense fish were' attacking it, one of them having the dog’s left hind leg in its.jaws. The: dog was compelled to. release its hold of .the stick- and fell-hack; intO> tho • water, which.. was churned into, foam as it struggled with-Abe Two'huge .fish .that were trying to drag it beneath the .surface. ,V After about a quarter ,of an. hour, the pike wore driven off xyith, a pole, and the dog rescued in an exhausted condition.
