Moody) presiding over a full attendance. ■* • The Municipal Conference wrote that tlio annual conference will be held at Nelson on March 14. The question of drawing up permits will be considered at the next jnecting of the Council. Iti was. decided to forward a cheque for £2O to the Cook County. Council towards cost ;of the MacDonald Memorial. ■Messrs MeGrcry Bros, wrote signifying. their intention of having hedges cut according to requirements. A letter was received from the Deputy Chief Inspector for Dangerous Goods referring to the amended scale of fecsi for petrol pumps,—Cr. Fleming' strongly, criticised the .minimum fee chargeable, which, he contended, was unreasonable., —A ftor. discussion, it was resolved to reply recommending that the minimum, amount in the tanks be raised to 250 gallons. A letter from the Wanganui City Council was received, in which a protest was voiced against the petrol tax which, it-was contended,' shook, he reduced by half.—Cr. Carruthers supported the protest, ’ stating that the highway and other ’main roads would not get any of the tax money. .—Cr. fSpecial to the Times.) OPOTIKI, Dec. 2. The monthly meeting of the Opotiki Chamber of Commerce was heal last night. . . A letter was . received from die Postmaster-General -stating that arrangements had been made for mails to leave Rotorua at 6 a.rn. and arrive at Opotiki at 12.15 p.m., four hours earlier than previously. \ 'letter- was received from National Tours, Ltd., asking for information about the, district to he 'inserted in a tourist’s- guide. The Public AVorks Department, Tauraiiga, notified that oil boat days, a train will leave Tauraiiga Ait* 7 a.in., arriving at Taneatua at ip a.m., returning .'rom Taneatua at ,'3.15 p.m., and arriving: at Tauraiiga at 6 p.m. The Chamber decided to support the Rotorua Chamber in urging Government support lor the woodpulping industry!

The Opotiki County Council met this morning. ■ The Council had wired the -Minister of Public AVorks that they opposed the proposed increase of the amount of petrol tax to Ue paid to small boroughs. A reply received states that no increase over 8 per cent.- is proposed., A letter was received from Mr Braeel local manager of Dalgety and Co., complaining _ of the bad state of the Waiotahi road, and claiming £2 10s expenses incurred in getting his car out •of "a bad bole in the road.—The matter was referred to the engineer to report. H. A. Evans wrote refusing to pay further rates until the AVaiotalii road was put in order.-—The Council’s solicitor was instructed to take steps to recover rates' owing, tiie engineer to report on the state of the road. ' .•

In reply to ah enquiry from the Council, the Minister ;. of .Agriculture 'wrote stating that the Government had decided not to liberate any more opossums at present.
