An application for a second-hand license was received from Waltei Hawkins.—Granted. Application for a- permit for six months to conduct shop days in town in aid of the Pahou Memorial meeting house, Mamitnke, was made by the manager of the fair Mr H. Nepia. The Clerk pointed out that, in light of the Council’s decision to abolish shop days, the only method of granting the request would lie by giving a temporary hawker’s license, which entailed a fee of £5 ss. _ The Act also stated that such a license became void when the shop concerned was closed at any time. As the request was for only occasional days during the six • months, a fresh license would need to be taken out and another fee paid for each day the shop was open. Tt was decided to write to Mr Nepia acquainting him of the position. REPORTS PR ESEN TED.
During a recent works committee meeting, according to a report to the Borough Council last evening, advantage was taken of the presence or the principals in connection with the road construction contract, who were asked if it would not be advisable to reinstate the seal coat owing to the small cracks which were showing, but the committee was assured that this was not necessary, the small cracks being of no menace whatever. The reserves committee reported that the question of some old willow trees growing on the boundary line between the Reserve and Mr. File’s property was considered, when it was ultimately agreed to allow Mr. File to remove the trees, the work to 'be done to the satisfaction of the engineer, and any damage to the fence to be made good at Mr. File’s expense. Reporting on the waterworks service the Borough engineer (Mr A. Young) stated that the gauge readings were: the highest llolbs, lowest 901bs.
