MUNICIPAL ’BUSES

NEW GISBORNE SERVICES. WORKS COMMITTEE’S REPORT-.

The operation of the ’bus service, which the Borough Council wore recently compelled to purchase from Mr W. B. Coham by The municipality, was considered by the works com- - mittee after taking possession of the vehicles. • ' The committee reported to the Borough Council last evening that the Mayor interviewed the Public. Works Department resident engineer on the question of the Council’s continuing running the Chevrolet ’buses, in connection with the service, which were unlicensed. As a result, it was decided that it would be inadvisable to run these ’buses on the hospital route, but to confine their use for flat routes, and that arrangements he made with one of the other ’bus proprietors to carry out this of the service together with the Kaiteratahi runs on behalf of the Council. The finalising of this matter was left to the Mayor ana ,- r. Todd. In order that the ’bus service shouldnot compete with the tramways it was decided that the minimum charged on the ’buses should be not less than 6d. A general discussion ensued in regard to routes,, timetable and fa res in connection with the other services, the tramways manager, Mr. K. G. Ball, being asked to make the best arrangements possible and carry on for a week when more permament arrangements could be made, the fares, meantime to ho similar to Mr. Coham’s. The manager was also asked to endeavor to include services to serve Kaiti and Victoria • township in his time-table, and was empowered to order things necessary to put the service into decent condition, but it was decided not to incur any expense in painting. In the interest of the service it, was resolved to take over the contract with the hospital and the Mangapnpa mail service carried on by Mr. Coham.
