PERMIT GRANTED
PICTURES ON GOOD FEIPAY
Permission to screen suitable pictures on Good Friday was sought at the Borough Council meeting last evening, by the managers of Everybody’s and the Palace theatres, who pointed out that in the past no exception had been taken to any of the pictures shown on Good Friday or Christmas Day by patrons. Cr. H. H. DeCosta moved that the requests be granted. Cr. T. Todd, opposed this and said that in the - past, merely ordinary programmes had .been shown, and nothing specially suited for the occasion. Apparently they could not trust to the discretion of the theatre-manag-ers and he, therefore, contended that a special committee should be set up to consider the suitability of the programmes to be submitted. Cr D. AV. Coleman disagreed with both Cl's DeCosta and Todd and said that he was entirely opposed to any pictures being shown. On a vote the motion that pictures be allowed was carried.
