APPEAL FOR MEN
PROTESTS TO MINISTERS
DISMISSAL OF BUSHWORKERS
WELLINGTON. April 5
A deputation to the Hons. J. G. Coates and F. J. Rolleston to-day urged reconsideration of the Railway Department’s decision to dispense until the services of 25 bush workers at the Government forests at Pokako and Eroa, on the Main Trunk line, in accordance with the March 24 notices. It was stated that the dismissals were due to the reorganisation of the logging and sawmilling departments. Mr W. Nash urged that transfers he made in the summer. Mr Jones, chairman of the Railway Board, said timber was being overproduced for the Department. The men understood that their engagement would end about Fiaster. Mr Coates said there could not he any permanency in bush work of this Kind. He would go into the question with Messrs Rolleston and Jones to see if there was any method to employ the men. A decision would be arrived at before Saturday —P.A.
