Mr. R. W. Comyns, coal merchant at Oxford, is totally blind as the result of an accident which occurred yesterday. He was chopping wood when a piece flew up striking him on the eye, completely destroying it. Several years ago Mr. Comyns lost the sight of bis other eye in almost a similar way. On that occasion he was breaking coal.—P.A.
The death has occurred at Invercargill of Mr. Cuthbert Cowan, 92, a member of Parliament during the Atkinson regime, and one of the founders of the Southland Frozen Meat Co. and for many years a member of the Land Board. Deceased owned extensive property at Kawana and was a prominent breeder of Romney sheep.—P.A.
