CAUSE OF RED VICTORIES IN CHINA. SUNCHUANFANG’S ARMY , ROUTED. (United Press Assn.—Copyright.) PEKIN, Oct. 12. The Red victories are obviously due to the Russian leadership, because they are greatly outnumbered, another factor being the assistance rendered by the natives in guiding them through secret passes, permitting flank, rear, and other demoralising attacks by the Reds, who are popular with the natives everywhere, owing to the rigid discipline, the absence of looting, and other characteristics lacking in the anti-Red rabble.
Reports state that Sanchuanfang’s army has been almost entirely routed by the Reds, and Sunchnnafang is prepared to accept any terms. The Szechwan situation is daily becoming critical. The evacuation of foreigners from Chengtu has commenced, women and children leaving.
A warning has been issued by the Chungking authorities to foreigners not to proceed up the river beyond Icliang, owing to fresh outbursts of anti-foreignisrn.—A. -and N.Z.C.A.
