WORLD’S MOST FAMOUS SHIR.
CUTTY SARK BEING RE-FITTED
There is now being outfitted anew in a British* port tho fastest sailing ship afloat, and in her day the most famous—tlie Cutty Sark. Built 56 years ago, in 1868, this wonderful vessel long held a foremost place amongst) the cracks of the clipped ship era. Quite early in her career she began to accumulate records, and from 1874 to 1890 nothing under sail could complete with her as regards the times of her runs to and fro betyoen Liverpool and Sydney. She once cowered 365 knots—that is, more than 400 miles—within 24 hours, a speed which few* modern steamers, always excepting the Atlantic passenger cracks, can rival.
