N.S.W. COAL STRIKE.
<S> TROUBLE SPREADING. OWN : '!p' TALK OF VOLUNTARY .LABOR. SYDNEY. May 10. The .\orth.rn cue.! owners will meet on Monday to discuss the question of introducing voluntary labor in the idle mines. . . It is estimated that since the Maitland pits closed, the employees have lost nearly a quarter of a million m wages. Another South Coast pit. the Metropolitan, employing 600 men, has been rendered idle. The Southern owners have issued an ultimatum that unless the idle mines resume immediately, the conference with the Miners' Federation fixed for to-morrow, will be abandoned —L.P.A.
MEN WILL NOT GIVE WAY. CONFERENCE WITH OWNERS POSTPONED. (Received Mav 10, 10.25 p.m.) SYDNEY, May 10. The miners have decided they will not give wav to the demands made by the 'owners.' They state that- rather than do this they will engage in the bitter galling contest which must ensue.
