WOOL MARKET
PESSIMISM AT LEEDS. IMPROVED-POSITION AT BRADFORD. LONDON, Oct. -5. The Financial News special correspondent states - that the woollen outlook at Leeds is very gloomy. There is no immediate sign of recovery. Finanical crises are already under way. Twenty firms have made arrangements with their creditors in one week recently. More must* follow.' There are no orders and enormous stocks. Unemployment is rife throughout the West Riding woollen districts. Bradford'is more hopeful. There is much unemployment, but a decided movement in the- trade because manufacturers are able to produce at lower prices than where highpriced stocks are held. The prohibition of German dyes does not cause concern. Large stocks are held of British broad colors, . equal to German dyes, but still unequal in the more delicate shades.—A. and N.Z.C.A. ANTWERP SALES. PRICES 15 TcTio PER CENT. HIGHER THAN JUNE. (Received Oct. 6, 7.30 p.m.) ANTWERP, Oct. 5. At the wool sale five thousand bales of La Plata wool were offered and fifteen hundred sold. Prices were 15 to '2O per cent, higher than at the June sales.—A. and N.Z.C.A.
