FATE OF VILNA.
A THREE-CORNERED SITUATION,
WHO WILL GET THE CITY?
LITHUANIANS, “BOLSHIES” AND POLES RIVAL CLAIMANTS.
-Received July 15, 11 p.m.) . LONDON, July 14. Uie -Morning Post’s Warsaw correspondent reforts that the three-cornered situation between the Poles, the Lithuanians and the Bolsheviks is complicated by a Lithuanian declaration that rather than have the Bolsheviks in Vilna Lithuania will herself send troops to capture Vilna from the Poles. Nevertheless, it is known, that Lithuania, ever since her birth as a State, has been anxious to have Vilna as the capital. Once the Lithuanians come to Vilna the Poles will have to fight to recover the city. Out of a population of 200,000 some 00,000 have fled from Vilna in the last forty-eight hours, as was the experience of 1919 when the Bolsheviks occupied the city for four months. Those remaining are awaiting the next turn of the military situation with anxiety, and wondering whether the Poles, Lithuanians or Bolsheviks will become their masters.—A. and N.Z.
