PAINTERS AND PAPERHANGERS.
SITTING OF CONCILIATION COUNCIL.
The Conciliation Council sat yesterday in the Supreme Court Buildings in connection with the painters and paperhangors’ employees dispute. Mr T. Harle Giles presided and the assessors for the employers were Messrs Kirk. G. S. Vincent, F. P. Hall and F. H. Lawton whilst Messrs J. H. Hall, F. Cromwall anil G. Payton represented the employees. The proceedings were in committee but it was stated that an agreement was- arrived at in relation to hours of work, overtime, holidays, payment of wages, apprentices, suburban work, underrate workers, preference, brushwork, sub-letting work, and scope of award. No agreement was reached in regard to country work or wages, and those matters will have to b e determined by the Arbitration Court. The following firms were exempted from the provisions of the award, so long as they paid the wakes and overtime rates. Gisborne Sheepfarmors’ Frozen Meat Co., Nelson Bros., and Wnipaoa freezing works. .Captain W. 11. Tucker, per his agent, Miss Courtroy, was added to the list of parties cited. On the motion of Mr F. H. Lawton, seconded by Mr J. H. Hall, a hearty vote of thanks was accorded to the Commissioner for the patient way in which he had presided over the- Council’s deliberations.- The Assessors present intimated that everything had been done by the Commisisoner to effect a settlement.
