CARDINAL MORAN.

LOUD IN PRAISE OF THE MAORI Press Association. AUCKLAND, Feb. 24. Cardinal Moran and party left by the Victoria on their return to Sydney this evening. Speaking at the dinner accorded to him last evening, in referring to the Maori people whose nobleness of character and beauty of language could, he said, scarcely be surpassed by any other race, expressed the hope that the race would be preserved and their language handed down. It would be a terrible thing on tho part of the New Zealand Government to allow such a race to perish and their language to be forgotten. He congratulated tho people of New Zealand on their grand Government, developed along the lines of a sound democracy.
