PURCHASE OF SCOWS.
Press Association. AUCKLAND, last nightA somewhat important shipping deal took place this week, the FordShipping Line, Ltd., having purchased the whole of Mr. Geo. T. Niccol’s fleet of scows, including one now building. The Ford Line will now consist of 12 of the most modern and u]>to-date timber-carrying scows. The vessels purchased include the Curlew, Gannet, Seagull, Ranger, and Moa (now building). The Ford Line have contracted with the Kauri Timber Co. for the carriage of all their timber from coast- ports to Auckland for a number of years, including towage of logs. Since the y-isit of the Hon. J. A. Millar, Minister for Marine, to Auckland, there has been renewed confidence in the scow class of vessels. Whilst in Auckland Mr. Millar, by personal inspection and inquiry into scows, stated that he was perfectly satisfied as to their safety and that liis opinion of them had been decidedly altered. ’>
