TURANGANUI v. GISBORNE.
Tho annual match hot ween the above clubs took place in perfect bowling weather yesterday at tho Gisborne Club’s green, and resulted in an easy victory for tho mother club. The president of tho Gisborne Club (Mr. J. A. Harding), in welcoming tlio Tiirnnganui bowlers, extended to them best wishes for an enjoyable day. He said that such visits tended' to healthy rivalry between tlio two clubs, and hoped that it would strengthen the good feeling existing between bowlers. -He would promise them a good game. Play was then commenced, and at 12.30 the first round, of games was concluded. In this round Simson’s team, dill best for Gisborne, and Colley’s for Turanganui. At tho luncheon adjournment Gisborne had 118 against their opponents’ 48: Oil resuming the Gisborne teams wore materially altered, and the Turanganui slightly. Tlio latter club did better in the second essay, scoring 51 to Gisborne’s 84. In tiiis round Nasmith’s ton in (Turanganui) tied with. Pettio’s, Harding’s four scoring best for Gisborne. The aggregate’s were: —(Gisborne -202, Turanganui 99. Afternoon tea was dispensed by the laclios and much appreciated. On behalf of tho Turangrimii Club, tlio President (Mr. G. Matthowsbn) thanked the Gisborne Club for the kindness and, hospitality extended to them. They- bad bad an enjoyable day; they had not thought of winning, but of learning, and had learned a good deal. He hoped at no distant date to return the compliment by inviting tlio Gisborne Club to tlieir green. Tlio matter would no doubt bo easily arranged. He again thanked the members for the hospitality extended, and clieors were given for tlio Gisborne Club. Mr. Harding, in a few well-chosen words, thanked Mr. Mattliewson .for tlio sentiments expressed, and at. bis call cheers were given for the Turanganuit'os and tlieir president. The following gallic was played oil tlio Gisborne Club’s green on Saturday:—Paltriilge, Hookey, Nicholas, and Simson (34) beat Dodds, Harding, AA’itty, and Ponsford (14). Press Association. AUCKLAND, Saturday. Tlio annual tournament of Auckland bowling tournament is being held; and will be completed on Monday. The singles championship was •won by Rankin (Mt. Eden' Club), Ledinglmni (Auckland Club) being runner-up.
