RIFLE SHOOTING.
GISBORNE DEFENCE CADETS. Yesterday the above corps had a day’s shooting on the Kaiti range, when close oil forty members paraded for class firing. Owing to the unavoidable! absence of Captain Cowan -a-ndk'ljfvitixwrivt'' Doyle, Mr. Red ward took charge of the cadets and gave tlieni their first practical lesson in shooting, using Gaudet’s practice ammunition and firing at ranges eipvalentu to 200 aud 300 yards. Some of the lads made very fair scores for a first attempt. Sorgts. Somervell, McFarlane, and Sepals took charge of the remainder, and fired 7 shots each at 200 anil 300 yds. Considering the little practice the lads have had, some rattling ; good scores wore put up. The following are some of the highest scores:— 200 30CP Ttl,
