Sir Hector Macdonald.
By Telegraph—Press Association. Hawera, last night. Sir Hector Macdonald received an enthusiastic welcome here on route to New Plymouth. The. Mayor and Borough Councillors and President and members of the Caledonian Society received the General, who inspected the cadets and volunteers. The Mayor and President of tho Caledonian Society made short speeches of welcome, and the latter, on behalf of a lady admirer, presented General * Macdonald with a spray of heather from Scotland. Sir Hector briefly replied. Hearty cheers wore given, and, as the train pulled off, the band played “ Auld Lang Syne.” Peoplo from many parts of the district took part in the reception.
Auckland, last night. General Hector Macdonald arrived at Onehunga this morning,and went straight to Rotorua. The train arrives at Rotorua to-night. He visits Tikiterc, the Hatuurana springs, and Whakarewarewa tomorrow, and arrives in Auckland on Friday.
