PRESBYTERIAN ASSEMBLY.

By Telegraph—Press Association. Dunedin, last night. Tho Rev. Jas. Paterson, of Wellington, has been nominated Moderator of next year’s Assembly. The nomination was received with applauso. In future the nomination for Moderator is to bo made by the Presbyteries at the last general meeting prior to tho mooting of tho Assembly. The Revs. Ferguson and Bruco, New South Wales delegates, said a few words of congratulation on the union, in bidding farewell. Reports on the state of religion were adopted, with a recommendation that a sermon bo preached in each church on Sabbath observance. Corresponding members wore appointed to carry out a thorough scheme for au evangelising mission in several congregations of the church during tho year. The roport of tho committee on statistics showed that in the United Church there were 214 charges, 14 Presbyteries, and 27,232 members. Tho report of the Maori Missions C'ommitteo was adopted, approving of the appointment of Mr Egorton Ward as missionary at £l5O per year, and authorising the purchasing of a section and building a house for him at Tuamarina.
