Legislative Council

Wellington, last night. The Council met at 2.30 p.m. The Legislative Council put the Cook ami Other Islands Government Bill and Coal Mines Act Amendment Bill through the final stages.
EVENING SITTING
The Council resumed at v.iiO. The Maori Lands Administration Amendment Bill passed the final stages.
House of Representatives
The House met at 2.i>o p.m. The discussion on the Payment of Members Bill was continued. The motion to make the Bill apply to both Houses of Parliament was lost by 27 to 21, as was also a proposal to substitute the Legislative Council for tho House of Representatives. The proceedings were interrupted by f>.!!o adjournment.
EVENING SITTING
The House resumed at 7.30. Without further discussion the proviso moved by the Premier in the Payment of Members Bill was negatived bv 33 to 31. Mr Collins moved a new clause to provide that the Bill shall not come into force until December 31st, 1902. The motion was rejected by 30 to 27. The Bill was then reported, and passed the final stages without further debate. The New Zealand Ensign Bill and Criminal Code Act Amendment Bill passed the final stages. The Railways Authorisation Bill and Statutes Revision Bill were read a second time on the voice s.
