PRESBYTERIAN ASSEMBLY,
BIBLE-READING IN SCHOOLS,
By Telegraph—Press Association. Dunedin, last night. The Presbyterian Assembly dealt with tho reports of the Committee on Biblereading in schools, and resolved, after a brief debate, to authorise a committee to collect funds to support ouc or more agents to advocate Bible reading, and secure such amendments of the Education Act as will effect the daily reading of the Bible in the public schools under provision of a timetable and conscience. It- was further resolved that the Assembly is of opinion that it is of the most importance that the Bible should bo introduced into our public schools, but as at present the different churches are not agreed as to the exact form in which this should be done it resolves that the following Committee—the Revs. J. Gibb. J. Paterson. W. Ilewitson. and Dr. Erwin—be appointed to confer with tho bodies of other churches, and endeavor to come to an understanding and formulate a platform, and if they should succeed in so doing, to take what steps they may deem best to bring it prominently before the people. The Presbyterian Assembly held a Children's Rally this evening, when the Sabbath school children mustered in force, and were addressed at some length. The Assembly afterwards adopted the reports of both Sabbath school committees, and resolved to have a Children's Rally each year. The Rev. J. B. Fraser, on behalf of the Education Board, was presented with a pen and inkstand, neatly mounted, which had been used to sign the union documents.
