HAWKE’S BAY PROTESTS AGAINST THE BILL.

(By Telegraph—Press Association.) Napier, last night. A conference of Town, River, and Road Boards’ delegates representing various local bodies in Hawke’s Bay, held at Waipawa to-day, resolved “ That it is desirable provision bo made in the new Counties Bill for the purpose of retaining all road board districts as at present constituted ; that tho present franchise should be retained ; that town boards as at present constituted with their present powers bo retained; that it is desirable to givo ratepayers in town board districts the power of electing committees, and that license fees be made part of town board funds ; that the passing of tho Counties Bill would not bo to tho interest of the country generally, and that it will bo a retrogressive step in the matter of local Government, and that in the opinion of tho meeting local Government would not bo carried out as judiciously as under the present bodies.”
