MILNER’S RETURN.
A SPLENDID RECEPTION. WELCOMED BY KING, STATESMEN AND SOLDIERS. THEHtANK OF PEER, By Telegraph—Press Association —Copyright London, May 24. Sir A. Milner, on his return from South Africa, was given a tremendous reception on his arrival at the Southampton and the. Waterloo stations. Lord Roborts and many members of the British Ministry’ were present, and extended a welcome to the Commissioner. Ho was escorted to Marlborough Honso by Lord Salisbury and Mr Chamberlain, where lie was received by His Majesty King Edward VII. His Majosty, in the course of a brief interview, conferred a Peerage on Sir A. Milner.

It is understood that Sir Alfred Milner, under the title of Lord Milner, takes his soat iu the Houso of Lords hi June. The voyage lias greatly improved the stato of his health. Ho had luncheon with his Majesty the King, and dined with Lord Selbournc.
The newspapers express delight at the raising of Sir A. Milner to the peerage, and describe it as a fitting sequel to tbo honors conferred by Her lato Majesty Queen Victoria on Lord Roborts in January. -
