Mrs Day, the wife of the manager of a bntter factory, sent tho servant out on some pretence. Then Mrs Day induced her rive children, their ages ranging from elevon to two and n half, to take supposed medicine, giving them lollies.

When tho servant returned, Mrs Day tried to prevent her entering. Then Mrs Day disappeared. On the door being opened it was found that four of the children were dead. The eldest is still alive, but in a critical condition.

Subsequently the doad body of the mother (Mrs Day) was found in a tank in the yard. It is supposed that the woman was demented. She had been ill since the last child was born.
