MINING MATTERS.

PUMPING AT THE THAMES,

By Telegraph—Press Association. Thames, last night,

Important nows has been received re the drainage of the Thames deep levels. A meeting of the London Boards of the Moanatairi,'May Queen, and Caledonian Companies communicated with the Thames Hauraki, who, with a Government subsidy of twenty-five thousand pounds, expended a hundred and fifty thousand in the erection of a huge pumping plant. Thoy intimated to the Thames-Hauralti that if in the future the unwatering of the field was placed on a satisfactory basis, they were prepared to spend money to prospect the deep levels. If such is not done the Company will not spend money in prospecting or pumping. The ThamesITauraki replied that at present they had protection, and could not state their future actions. A conference of the companies was then hold, and it was decided that if no satisfactory settlement is arrived at, a petition be sent to the New Zealand Government, through the Agent-General, asking that the Standard Company, with which the Thames-Hauraki is connected, compel the latter to pump, or allow others to do so ; or that the Government should buy out the interest of the Standard Company, and place the pump in the hands of a Drainage Board for the benefit of the whole field.
