By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright

Wanganui, last night. At a meeting of the Band Contest Committed to-night, arrangements for tho contest were roported to do in a forward state. Great dissatisfaction was expressed at the 'action of tho Wellington Garrison Band in withdrawing at a lato stage, particularly as tho contest dates were altered to suit their convenience, and tho local band oven offered to pay then- train fare. It was resolved that the Mayor wire to tho Defence Department with reference to obtaining leave for tho members -of the Wellington Garrison Band, and that tho Mayor of Wellington bo asked to appeal to tho employers of the men. Tho opinion is strongly expressed that Wellington should compete here, as Wanganui was always represented at tho previous contests.
