MAINTENANCE CASES.

CHARGES AGAINST MEMBEES OF

THE CONTINGENT.

[By Telegraph—Press Association.] 1 Dunedin, last night. Two young men were charged at the Police Court this morning with attempting to leave the colony without making adequate provision for the support of their illegitimate unborn offspring. They had been chosen as members of the Otago section of the Seventh Contingent, and the publication of their selection caused the proceedings to be taken, with the result that both defendants lost their places, which were filled by reserves. When the cases were called on, it was stated that a compromise had been effected, and the proceedings were withdrawn.
