[By Telegraph—Press Association.] Wellington, last night. Trooper Von Blaremberg, of Wanganui, an invalided trooper, presented himself at camp yesterday to join the Sixth Contingent, but was found to be medically unfit, and likely to be so for another couple ol months.

Mr Burnett, inspecting engineer, reports to the Railway Department that a huge embankment between Wedderburn and Ranfurly, on the Otago central line, is subsiding at the rate of two feet a day. His Department does not anticipate an interruption of traffic, but believe in the near future that it will be necessary to use lighter engines than are now running. Sir A. Milner cables that Private Miller, of Raglan, who was severely injured at Pretoria on the 27th as the result of an acriamt, and also Private Heywood, have been discharged from the hospital at Pretoria. The annual returns of the local Magistrate's Court for 1900 show that 3545 oivif plaints were c atered and 2867 came to hearing. The aggregate amount claimed waa £37,249, and the Bum recovered was £22,247. In the criminal division 2897 persons were taken into custody or summoned, and 2030 of that number were summarily convicted. Of these 1006 were convictions for drunkenness. Forty-nine neglected children were taken into custody, and 44 were sent to various homes or reformatories. A total of 229 distress warrants were executed during the year. . Dunedin, last night. Owing to the high state of the rivers tha dredges on the Kawarau and Molyneux have not got started sinoe the holidays. Tha Molyneux ; has been running 10ft to 12ft above tha normal level. The following are the returns:—Alexandra Eureka £43, Charlton Creek £34, Molyneux Hydraulio £33 9s 6d, Waimumu £27 4s, Waimumu Central £2O Is, Ngapara HI. £l7 15s, Waimumu Queen £l7 11s, Olrig £l6 12s, Nevis £ls, Waimumu Extended £22 3s, Gabriels £9 12s Bd, Paul’s Beach £9 4s.
