LABOUR DISLIKES BEING DRAGGED INTO ASIAN “ROWS”
(1 p.m.) ADELAIDE, July 26. The leader of the Federal Opposition, Mr, J. B. Chifley, told a meeting of trade union officials in Adelaide yesterday that although the Australian Labour Party whole-heartedly supported the United Nations in Korea, it did not want to be dragged into every “row” that occurred in Asia. The Labour Party must be prepared to take the broadest possible view of the world situation,” he said. “The great proportion of peoples in the East do not want Europeans or white people to govern their countries. Because we are bitterly opposed to communism and the tyranny which springs from communism, it does not mean that we must oppose every radical movement for self-government, communist - inspired or otherwise. “If the right or aspiration for selfgovernment is just, we must judge every situation on its merits.”
