YACHTS CROSS ATLANTIC IN UNDER 21 DAYS

LONDON, July 24. The last three of the five yachts competing in the 3000-miles Atlantic race reached Plymouth from Bermuda today. Samuel Pepys of seven tons, Cohoe of seven tons and the Bermudan cutter Mokoia of 10 tons arrived in that order. Samuel Pepys and Cohoe were only 18 seconds apart crossing the finishing line in the New York to Bermuda race before starting the Bermuda-Plymouth race. Even for bigger yachts 21 days across to Bishop’s Rock is considered good and both the Samuel Pepys and Cohoe beat that time. The race made yachting history for it is the first time for small craft to race across the Atlantic since the old tea clipper days. The race started on July 2.
