HORTICULTURAL SOCIETY WANTS WAITEATA PARK
The P.B. Horticultural Society has asked the Gisborne Borough Council if it will make available one of its reserves, preferably Waiteata ’-Park in Russell Street, to plant in trees and shrubs as an experimental park. The request, when it came before the council last night, was referred to the reserves committee for consideration. _ The secretary of the society, Mr. F,. Birkett, stated that it was the societys aim to lay out a park in good shrubs and trees and create a desire for residents of Gisborne to plant more trees and shrubs around their homes and at the same time to lay out the Park so that it would be one of the show places of Gisborne. ' Mr. Birkett stated that Mr. W. D. Cook, of Eastwoodhill station. Ngatapa, was very interested in the scheme should it eventuate. The society had been advised that Messrs. Duncan and Davies, nurserymen. New Plymouth, would help considerably with a donation of trees and shrubs. The society had 400 members Interested in improving the park. “Should the project meet with the council's approval a committee will be pleased to wait on the council to fully discuss the matter.” he stated.
