R.S.A. CHANGES: ISSUES AT ANNUAL MEETING TONIGHT
The fourth president to hold office in the Gisborne Returned Services Association in a period of 25 years will take up his appointment in the course of the annual meeting this evening. He is Mr. M. R. Maude, a veteran of the Second World War who served with the Second N.Z.E.F. in the Middle East. , . , His nomination followed a period of three years in which he served as Kiwi vice-president, at first under the presidency of Mr. J. Le£gat and later under Mr. Gordon Jones. For 21 years after the resuscitation of the district association in 1926 Colonel R. F. Gambrill remained in office as president, and on his retirement Mr. Leggat was elected to the vacancy. He in turn was succeeded by Mr. Jones, who some months ago notified his intention to retire, Results of polls conducted for vacancies on the executive will be of general interest to members gathered for the annual meeting, and they should also find subjects for general discussion in the plans for the War Memorial building, the prospects of servicemen settlers, and various activities sponsored by the association. . . . On the social side of these activities the executive will put forward a recommendation that the annual reunion held in recent years should be replaced by a picnic function, preferably in a country locality. at_ which wives and children of ex-servicemen can be catered for.
