Two Face Charges Of Disposing Of Bodies Of Twins
(P.A.) AUCKLAND. July 25. After the death of a single Maori woman on Tuesday. July 18, the police went to a farm at Ruawaro. near Huntly. and exhumed the bodies of twin infants said to have been born to the woman about July 3. They also arrested the father and brother of the woman, charging them with disposing of the bodies of the twins. The woman who died was _ Cissy Tumohe. aged 26. She lived with her father and brother on the father’s farm.
Her death was due to septicaemia, according to the findings of a postmortem examination conducted by Dr. E. Willoughbv. of Huntly. It was not until July 20 that the Huntly police were informed of the woman’s death. Constable J. W. Hodgson next day visited the farm with an undertaker and about 400 yards from a whare supervised the exhumation of the bodies of twins, one of which had been stillborn. In the Magistrate's Court, Huntly, yesterday Witere Tumohe, aged 58, and Dooley Tumohe. aged 22. farmhand, were iointly charged. They were remanded to appear in Auckland on Monday next. Both of the accused are being hold in custody.
