BOTTLES OF BEER THROWN IN EFFORT TO ELUDE POLICE

AUCKLAND, July 24.

Charlie Mitai, aged 29. freezing works hand, pleaded guilty in the Police Court todav to a charge of assaulting Detective Price and behaving in a disorderly manner. The police said when asked what he was doing loitering near some motorcars on Saturday night. Mitai ran away and during the chase threw a bottie of beer. The shot just missed the detective. Two constables joined in the chase and Mitai threw another bottle of beer at one.

Mitai. who had a previous conviction for resisting the police, was sentenced to imprisonment with hard labour for 21 days on one charge and was convicted on the other.
