CITY CHASE ENDS IN GAOL TERM FOR SUSPECT SEEN IN CAR
(P.A.) AUCKLAND, July 24. To the charge on unlawfully interfering with a motor-car on Saturday night Thomas Smith, aged 22. labourer, pleaded guilty in the Police Court today.
The police said that when seen in a car parked near a theatre Smith was going through the glove compartment. He gave the police a false riame and was unable to state the number of the car. He bolted, but police and civilians joiiied in the chase and Smith finally fell exhausted on the Queen Street tram lines.
The magistrate Mr. H. Jenner Wily sent him to gaol for one month.
