N.Z. TRIBUTES TO STATESMANSHIP OF GREAT CANADIAN

“New Zealand joins with Canada in mourning the loss of one of its most distinguished men," said the Prime Minister. Mr. S. G. Holland, when he referred to the death of Mr. Mackenzie King, former Prime Minister of Canada, last night. He stated that Mr. King was one of the Empire's most distinguished statesmen, whose long record of service to his own country and the Empire as a whole would always be remembered, with respect and gratitude. His Prime Ministership was the longest in tiie annals of the British Empire. The Leader of the Opposition. Mr. P Fraser, who was a close personal friend of Mr. King and had been associated with him at several Commonwealth conferences, expressed last night the sympathy of the New Zealand Labour Party with the relatives and personal and political friends of Mr. King. He said the former Prime Minister of Canada was a most kindly man and most generous in his friendship. He alwavs extended a cordial welcome to all New Zealanders visiting Canada. He led the Canadian Liberal Party for a long period of years with remarkable success. A Liberal in the widest sense of the term. Mr Mackenzie King's asspirations for the mass of the pcooje were often ahead of what was possible. Mr. King was a firm believer in the United Nations and the International Labour Office.
