RAILWAYMAN INJURED BY ACCIDENTAL DISCHARGE OF RIFLE

An engine fireman living in a railwav hut at the Helensvillc station, Mr. Keith Ngatai. aged 20. suffered a gunshot wound in his left thigh when he was accidentally shot bv a hut mate yesterday afternoon. He was brought to the Auckland Hospital in a St. John ambulance. Pits condition last night was not serious. Mr. Ngatai was adjusting a wireless aerial outside his hut when the accident occurred. A friend was testing the ejector of his .22 calibre rifle when the rifle accidentally discharged, the shot passing through the boarding of the hut and striking Mr. Ngatai.
