LUCKY ESCAPE FOR FOUR WHEN TRUCK HITS RAILWAY ENGINE
(P.A.) CHRISTCHURCH, June 24. A man, his wife and their two children had a fortunate escape from injury last evening when the truck in which, they were travelling was struck on the front mudguard by a railway engine at Lincoln Road crossing and swung about 30ft. into a signal cabin at the side of the road. Both the engine and the truck were travelling slowly and no one was injured. The accident occurred at 7.30 p.m. The truck was driven by Mr. Cyril H. Campion, Junction Road, Halswell. The signal cabin was damaged and the signalling geai put out of action. The railway's points had to be worked by hand. The truck was not badly damaged but had to be towed away.
