New Canadian Jet Fighter To Fly Atlantic

(10 a.m.)

OTTAWA, June 4,

Canada’s new jet fighter would soon fly to England in the first non-stop trans-Atlantic flight by any jet fighter, the Minister of Defence, Mr. Brook Claxton said tonight. Mr. Claxton, who was addressing the Aviation Writers’ Association, said the plane would “show her wares in the biggest and most important air demonstration of the year—the exhibition at Farnborough, England.” He said the aircraft, known as the CF-100, was an all-weather night fighter designed for the defence of Canada’s vastness. The Royal Canadian Air Force had placed a big order for the CF-100 when it met and exceeded expectations in flight tests.
