MR. A. E. MANNING, managing-direc-tor of the Waikato Times, retired on Friday. He had held the position for 35 years. Mr. A. English, secretary of the firm has been appointed manager. MR. JAMES R. LOCK lE, a former assistant city solicitor for the Wellington City Corporation, and subsequently for some years county clerk of Ayrshire, Scotland, has been visiting Wellington. He is now in business in London. During the Second World War he was A.R.P. Controller, food executive officer, national registration officer, and a fuel overseer for Ayrshire and a member of the Scottish Housing Advisory Committee, receiving the 0.8. E. for his services. Mr. Lockic is a son of the late Mr. H. H. Lockie. formerly of Gisborne. He has left by the Wanganella for Sydney on his way back to London,
