UUTTERFAT DECLINE.- —The dairy season received its first production setback during February, when a sharp decline was recorded in butterfat received for manufacture, says the New Zealand Dairy Board in a review of production trends. “The month’s total of 30,400,0001 b. of butterfat is almost 6 per cent, below the February figure of last year,” says the board, “and is only slightly higher than the ‘norm,’ or live-yearly average.” CARE OF THE AGED.—“In the past, everyone has carefully kept very elderly people in bed. We have not spent enough time getting them on their feet.”. Miss M. I. Lambie, formerly director of nursing in New Zealand. made this comment when she returned to Wellington on Friday from England. She praised a London scheme by which the elderly are given new interests and said she thought New Zealand had much to learn from it. EQUALITY IN TAXATION.— UntiI (he Government accepts the fact that taxation can seriously retard real development and. because of this makes a complete survey of the present position with a view to removing the many anomalies and bringing about a more equal tax distribution, the chamber movement can do no more than keep hammering for this survey, so states the annual report of the Wellington Chamber of Commerce.
