MATAWAI TOURNEY FOR BUTLER CUP
COUNTRY BOWLS
(Herald Correspondent.) A one-dav tournament for the Verne Butler Cup was conducted by the Matawai District Bowling Club at the week-end. with an entry of six teams. Playing conditions were ideal, and the fixture was one of the most enjoyable of the season.
Five rounds were played, and victory rested with N. S. Gibson, P. Olsen, A. E. Gibson and J. Wilson (s). who went through the five rounds without a loss. The winners played consistently, a decisive factor in their success being the skip's excellent drawing shots which saved a number of heads in the course of tlie dav. Details of play:— First Round.—A. Fifth Round. —Mortleman 13 v. Marshall 12: Pilmer 14 v. Beaufoy 4; Wilson 8 v. Powell 5. Summary.—Wilson. 5 wins; Marshall and Pilmer, 3 wins; Powell and Beaufov, 1 win.
