Victorian Study Of N.Z. Erosion & Conservation
Engaged in a flying tour of New Zealand io study water conservation and erosion control in the Dominion. Mr H. E. Bolte, a mem her of the Victorian State Cabinet, reached Gisborne on Thursday night. He proceeded to Napier today in continuation of his tight schedule of engagements with conservation authorities.
The Minister is accompanied by Mrs. Bolt..- and by Mr. P. W. Lewis, private secretary. His tour is sponsored bv the New Zealand Government, which is represented in the party by Mr. W. A. Sheat, Parliamentary Under-Secretary to the Minister of Works, and Mr. W. L. Newman, chairman of the Soil Conservation and Rivers Control Council. Yesterday's programme in the Gisborne district was a busy one for the party, Mr. Bolte making an early start with a short aerial four of the East Coast area incorporated in the P.B. catchment district, and later oroceeding by car to the Waipaoa Valley where he was to inspect the erosion and control measure' in Te Weraroa Valley, the boo o! one of the main tributaries of the Waipaoa River in the hill country. On his morning flight Mr. Bolte was accompanied bv his private secretary' and bv Mr. A. D. Todd, engineer to the P.B. Catchment Board, who was able to identifv for the visitors outstanding examples of erosion with which the board is concerned. The tourists have already covered a lot of ground in the North Island, for fhev landed at Wellington from the Wanganella on Monday ?nd lat-r flew to Auckland, reaching Gisborne by way of Rotorua.
