GISBORNE SURFERS RETAIN CUPS AT WAINUI CARNIVAL
Representatives of the surf section of the Gisborne Amateur Surf and Swimming Club retained the Bodle and Adair Cups at a surf carnival conducted at Wainui Beach during the week-end. There was a satisfactory attendance of the public and the blanket collection resulted in a return of £ll. A brisk northerly wind made conditions a littie unpleasant for competitors and visitors, the sea being choppy and the breakers uneven. It provided a good test for swimmers in the surf races.
The results were:— Four-man Rescue and Resuscitation, for Bodle Cup.—Gisborne A, 66.7pt5., 1; Wainui, 65.25pt5., 2; Gisborne B, 63.11pt5., 3. Surf Ski Rescue.—J. Griffen, Gisborne. 2min. 53sec., 1; D. Read. Gisborne, 3min. Bsec., 2; R. Preston, Gisborne, 3min. 31sec.. 3.
Surf-ski Relay.—Gisborne A, 1; Gisborne B, 2; Wainui 1, 3. Beltman’s Race. —A. Judge, Wainui, 3min. 23sec., 1; J. V. Evans. Gisborne, 3min. 31sec., 2; K. C. Morse, Gisborne, 3min. 46sec., 3.
Surf Race, for Adair Cup.—B. McLean, Gisborne, 1; K. C. Morse, Gisborne, 2; G. Odams, Gisborne, 3. Time, 4min. 49sec. The order of finish of the other competitors was: N. Moss, Gisborne, B. Fitzpatrick, Wainui, B. Paku, Wainui. D. Johnson, Wainui, D. Harries. Wainui, P. Gregory, Gisborne, A. Williams, Wainui, I. Butler, Gisborne.
