MANY RABBITS PERISH ON WATERLESS ISLAND

ADELAIDE. Jan. 16. The Governor of South Australia, Sir Willoughby Norrie, who recently paid a visit .to waterless Werdang Island, reports that thirsty rabbits on the island have evolved a sea-bathing technique. He saw rabbits nibbling seaweed on the beach turn their backs to incoming waves so as to get a cool shower. The beach was littered with the bodies of hundreds of rabbits which had died through drinking sea water. Within a few hundred yards of the beach he saw a rabbit high in the branches of one of the few trees on the island nibbling leaves.
