(10 a.m.) COLOMBO, Jan. 16. Delegates including 150 representatives from Britain. France and Australia. attended the opening of the Asian regional conference of the International Labour Organisation, whose Mp f discussion will be on the economic development of Asia.
Japan and the United States are re presented bv observers.
The British Secretary for Commonwealth Relations. Mr P J. Noe] Baker, ’-d-ed Britain’s all-out assistance to the International Labour Organisation in its efforts to improve the lot of Asian
workers. Mr. Noel Baker, who conveyed greetings from the Foreign Secretary. Mr. Ernest Bevin. to the conference. said that economic expansion by joint action by East and West would dominate the future of Asia for years to come. He said that the 1.L.0. stood on the threshold of a new era of its work in Asia.
