STOWAWAY FROM N.Z. THOUGHT TO BE LOCKED BELOW DECKS
SYDNEY. Jan. 16.
Police believe that a stowaway, who came originally from Wellington, is locked below decks with several hundred tons of fertiliser aboard the cargo ship Norman Monarch,, which arrived at Sydney yesterday from Chile. The master of the ship sealed off the lower portions of the vessel after detectives had searched for the man, who hiad left a note saying he intended to Jump overboard with a lifebelt and swim ashore.
• • Police say the man is aged 38 and stowed away when the ship was in Wellington on October 15. and that he was discovered soon afterwards. He worked aboard while the ship went to {South America and returned to Sydney.
