EIGHTEEN PICKED UP AT SEA NEAR COCOS ISLAND

PERTk, Jan. 16.

The Straithaird radioed yesterday that she had rescued six Europeans and 12 Malays from two disabled sailing craft near Cocos Island. A subsequent message stated that the rescued include Mr. John C. Clunies-Ross, aged 21, known as the “King of Cocos Island.” an administrative officer, an Admiralty employee, and an officer of the Cable and Wireless organisation. No other details have been released from the liner, which is due in Fremantle tomorrow afternoon.
