ADMISSION TICKETS TO EMPIAD: OVER
5000 SOLD YESTERDAY OLA.) AUCKLAND, Jan. 17. More than 5000 tickets for all events at the Empire Games, including reserves and day session tickets, were sold yesterday from early in the morning. Members of the public lined up to buy 5s and 3s tickets for admission to the various sports. When the sales opened there was a queue of about 200 and the demand continued throughout the day. More than £IOOO in ticket money was banked during the afternoon. The greatest demand was for tickets to athletic events at Eden Park- More than 4000 tickets, including reserves being purchased. There was a keen demand for the opening and closing days.
Sales of tickets for tiie cycling events opened and it quickly became obvious that large crowds would be attracted to the Western Springs Stadium. There was a big demand for tickets for the final night on which the closing ceremony will be held at the stadium. Rowing tickets sold steadily, the greatest preference being for the reserved terrace from which spectators will be able to watch events from ca rs.
The boxing was next in popularity on the day's sales. Weight-lifting also caused a steady demand. There was a smaller demand for tickets for (he wrestling. A fair demand was received for admission to the fencing. All available tickets for" the swimming were sold several days ago. but inoniries for admission to events were still being received yesterday. Seats or. the auxiliary stand, which is being built, have not yet been released for sale.
