FIRE IN WINE AND SPIRIT STORE

(P.A.I AUCKLAND. Oct. 21. A fire shortly before midnight extensively damaged the premises of Cooke and Company. Limited, wine and spirit merchants, Albert Street. Tlie fire started in the real of the building and swept to the upper storey. It shattered dozens of beer bottles and charred the staircase and walls. City firemen helped by machines from three other stations attacked the outbreak from Federal and Albert Streets simultaneously. The fire was concentrated in the rear of the building.

A director of the firm. Mr. R. Johnston, could give no estimate of the damage this morning. He said all the electricity was turned off at 5 eelock last evening. Fire brigade officials are still trying lo determine the cause of tiie outbreak.
